Rapport VS: ruim 200 miljoen dollar om moslimhaat aan te wakkeren

Tussen 2008 en 2013 hebben 33 organisaties in de Verenigde Staten 205 miljoen dollar uitgegeven om moslimhaat te bevorderen. Dat wordt beweerd in een rapport van de Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) en de universiteit van California, Berkeley.
Het rapport dat vorige week is gepubliceerd identificeert in totaal 74 die moslimhaat aanwakkeren. Wilfredo Amr Ruiz, woordvoerder van CAIR tegenover Al Jazeera:
"It is an entire industry of itself. There are people making millions of dollars per year from promoting Islamophobia. They often present themselves as experts on Islamic affairs when they are not, They have fuelled an environment of distrust among the American public by claiming that Muslims do not belong to the American community and that they could never be loyal citizens."
Blogger Robert Spencer beweert volgens Trouw in een reactie op zijn site Jihadwatch.org idat CAIR aan Hamas is verbonden. Hij stelt dat de 33 organisaties geen netwerk en niet tot doel hebben om haat en angst te verspreiden. Volgens Spencer maakt het rapport de weg juist vrij voor de jihad door alle kritiek op terrorisme als islamofobie te kwalificeren.
In het rapport wordt over islamkritiek overigens het volgende geschreven:
It is not appropriate to label all, or even the majority, of those who question Islam and Muslims as Islamophobes. Equally, it is not Islamophobic to denounce crimes committed by individual Muslims or those citing Islam as a motivation for their actions.
De volgende 33 Amerikaanse organisaties zouden tussen 2008 en 2013 205 miljoen dollar aan islamhaat hebben uitgegeven. Van een aantal van deze organisaties/sites, zoals bijvoorbeeld jihadwatch, David Horowitz Freedom Centre en Pamelageller.com, is ook bekend dat zijn Geert Wilders steunen:
